Girlfriend to Make Difference for Jensen Thu 20th Jul 2000 10:59 Reports this morning suggest that Charlton are favourites in the race to sign Bolton midfielder Claus Jensen. Although claims that he had a medical at the Valley yesterday evening are being refuted it seems that the "fantastic offer" Bolton sources talked as having been made by Alan Curbishley's club are enough to take the Dane to London. However, all may not be done and dusted as Jensen is not finalising anything until his Copenhagen-based student girlfriend has been over and had a look round. So in our opinion the whole thing is up in the air, he could go to either club. Ultimately it all may depend on whether she is studying Urban Brutalism or Lovely Rural Countrysides at college. |
Agent Denies New Wright Discussions Tue 11th Jul 2000 14:00 Richard Wright's agent, the ever popular Jonathan Barnett, has said that he doubts there will be any new discussions between his client and Town. The agent said: "I don't think there will be any more contact with Ipswich in the foreseeable future. Richard just wants to get on with playing his football for Ipswich and helping them stay in the Premiership". With no club coming in for Wright and no new contract signed Town will have to tread very cautiously in order to get as much as possible for Wright from any transfer. Sticking him in the reserves would reduce any fee as would ostracising Wright in any other way. If, as Barnett says, Wright doesn't sign a new deal, Town must face letting their star keeper go for less than his value either sooner or later. |
Branagan Deal Confirmed Fri 07th Jul 2000 13:21 The deal making Keith Branagan a Town player for the next two years has been confirmed. The goalkeeper agreed the contract verbally early last month, but formally signed yesterday. Branagan could well be a very important member of the squad this season if Richard Wright moves on. |
Keeper Rumours Galore Mon 03rd Jul 2000 10:42 According to the newspapers Town are about to sign a full 11 of goalkeepers. Those mentioned include Alex Manninger rumoured to be part of an exchange deal with Richard Wright and even the Turkey keeper Rustu Recber. |
Gunners in for Wright Sat 01st Jul 2000 12:31 Reports today suggest that Arsenal may be about to make a bid for Richard Wright. Arsene Wenger is said to be a long-time admirer of Wright and sees him as an ideal replacement for 37-year-old David Seaman. Town would look for a fee of £4 million and above for the full international keeper transfer-listed this week. One report claims that Alex Manninger may come to Town as a make-weight in a deal for Wright, although this seems to be pure press speculation. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill, linked with Wright despite his statement yesterday saying he had made no contact with club, player or agent Jonathan Barnett, looks likely to monitor the situation. |
Barnett Speaks! Fri 30th Jun 2000 11:13 Town have been too hasty in putting Richard Wright on the transfer list according to the keeper's agent Jonathan Barnett. |
Agent Touts Wright Once More Wed 21st Jun 2000 12:54 Jonathan Barnett, the increasingly unpopular with Town fans agent acting for Richard Wright, has said that the Town goalkeeper would be more than happy to speak with Celtic. Barnett, also agent for Kieron Dyer and Matt Holland, said "Celtic are a big club and, if the opportunity came, he would certainly talk to them but it is not something that we have discussed". Barnett added that Wright was happy at Town and that no actual approach had been made by Martin O'Neill's club: "Celtic have not approached Richard and we haven't even discussed it. He is still contracted to Ipswich and intends to see out his contract at Portman Road." Wright has failed to sign an extension to his contract which is up at the end of next season. If he fails to sign an extension Wright will be able to go on a free abroad or, as he will still be under 24, on a reduced fee within the UK. It looks likely that Town will offer Wright for sale if no extension is signed. |
